Plan Ahead

Ask yourself:

  • Do we want to get married in the same location we honeymoon?
Destination Weddings are very popular and marrying at a resort with a few friends and family can be a considerable savings to you.
  • How long is your honeymoon going to be?
Check your calendars. How long do you want to be gone?
  • What is our general budget?
Your honeymoon is a trip of a lifetime, so it is the time to splurge with luxury rooms. Sometimes shortening the length of the honeymoon allows you to afford all the extras!
  • Passports
Do we need a passport? Is my passport current? Be sure your tickets and passports are issued in the same name!!!

Consult a Honeymoon Specialist

Your honeymoon is an important event, so talk to your honeymoon specialist. Ask questions. Be specific.

Tell the specialist the activities you would like to do on your honeymoon. Are you beach bums? Do you enjoy snorkeling, golf, gambling, scuba, nightlife, exploring ancient ruins, shopping, etc.

Make your reservations at least 6 months ahead if possible. This allows you to get Early Booking Discounts, your preferred resort along with the room category your desire.

Avoid flying out early morning the morning following your wedding particularly if you will be having an evening reception. It will be hard to wake up at 5:00am for that early morning flight!

Be sure your travel consultant puts “newlyweds” on your reservation. It is a good idea to remind the resort or cruise line when you check in that you are newlyweds as well. You’ll likely receive lots of special treatment like free champagne, breakfast in bed, a “goodie basket” or even an upgrade to a honeymoon suite.

Be sure to purchase TRAVEL INSURANCE. This will cover your trip in case of sickness or death in the family.

Splurge

Do something special that you wouldn’t normally do on a regular vacation. Spend a little extra for a room upgrade or book the honeymoon suite! Book the best room you can afford. Plan a romantic dinner at a gourmet restaurant or go on a sunset cruise. Take a tour or a few excursions.

Packing

Wherever you are going, do all your related errands and packing well ahead of time so you can just pick up and go on the day of your departure.

See “Travel Packing List” for a complete list of items.

Carry your swimming suit and a quick change of clothes in your carry-on bag just in case your room is not ready when you arrive.

When packing for your honeymoon, think about packing some romantic items like candles, massage oil and some new lingerie.

Always pack your valuables in your carry-on bag and keep with you at all times.

Other Details

Have your tickets, foreign currency, traveler’s checks, your passports and other papers organized in an easily accessible place. If you are leaving on your honeymoon directly from your wedding reception, ask an attendant or family member to collect and store the wedding gifts brought to the party. Make arrangements for tuxedo or rental items to be returned.

  • Have you arranged for your announcements to be sent?
  • Are your suitcases ready and waiting?
  • Do you have your tickets and passports?
  • Have you left a copy of your itinerary and passport with someone in case of emergency?
Have you arranged for transportation to the airport or train station?
