Tips for Choosing Your Photographer

1. BOOK YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER EARLY!  Most weddings are held on Saturdays. There are only 52 Saturdays a year - dates book early. Don't miss out getting the wedding photographer you want!

2. Look through the wedding albums of friends and relatives who live in your area. Personal recommendations are always a good start.

3. Bridal fairs are also a great place to see the work of various photographers.

4. Schedule a consultation with several photographers so you can personally meet with them and get a clear understanding of the packages he/she offers along with the pricing structure. Only schedule consultation with photographers who specialize in weddings.

5. When viewing samples of the photographer's work, be sure you are seeing the work of the photographer who will be shooting your wedding.

6. Make sure the wedding photographer is using professional equipment with equally professional back-up equipment. You want to be sure he can do the job!

7. Discuss with the photographer and perhaps make a list of photos you would like in your album. Do you want predominantly posed pictures or do you prefer more candids. The more explicit your instructions to the photographer, the better the odds your wedding photography will meet your expectations and misunderstandings will be eliminated.

8. Consider the personality of each photographer. Personality is important! You will spend more time with your photographer than any other professional involved in your wedding. Choose the photographer who you feel is the most competent and whose personality will make you and your guests feel most comfortable.

9. Check out the photographer's credentials. Make sure they have the proper governmental licenses and are members of professional organizations which maintain high standards of ethics and professionalism.

10. Get every aspect of the agreement with the photographer in a written contract. The contract should include: the date, arrival time, total hours, fees and overtime charges, if any. List all locations – the bride’s home, ceremony, reception. Include addresses and directions. Include the cost and details of the package along with the cost for additional photos you may want to order.

11. Schedule a pre-bridal photo session. It will enhance your album and provide beautiful wall portraits.

12. If you’re planning to send an announcement of your wedding to the newspaper, be sure your photographer knows, and takes a black and white portrait of the two of you.

13. Your wedding photos will provide you years of memories of this very special day - you want to look your best. Consider using a professional skilled in photography make-up to do your make-up. They can enhance your natural beauty.
