Choosing a Bridesmaid Dress

How do you select a dress that will make everyone happy? Here are some tips to help your bridesmaids all look magnificent.

Same fabric…same color…different style
If your maids range from a 5' 8" bombshell to a plump petite, stick to one color and fabric, and let your attendants choose the style. Not only will everyone look great in the style they choose, but because they chose their own dresses, they will be able to wear them again. Manufacturers like Watters & Watters, Jim Hjelm, Dessy Creations, and Alfred Angelo have jumped on this trend by creating different styles using the same fabrics.

Try the two-piece

A popular alternative to the traditional bridesmaid dress is the two-piece ensemble. Allowing maids to mix—and-match tops and skirts will provide for more freedom in selecting pieces that fully complement their figures—and double their chances of using the outfit again. Halter tops and knit tops are especially hot.

Separates
One terrific trend is separates. Exquisite taffeta ball skirts with matching cashmere twin sets, strapless tops and shawls, tube tops and shrugs, or man-tailored shirts, à la Sharon Stone at the Oscars. A stunning look. After the wedding, your attendants can mix and match with pants and skirts again and again.
