Here are some basic guidelines to help you determine the recommended attire for your wedding. Please note: these are only recommended guidelines; if you would like to stray a bit from these guidelines, feel free. Ultimately, it's your wedding and you should wear what you feel is appropriate. ________________________________________________________________________________________
SEMI FORMAL DAYTIME
The groom, groomsmen, fathers, and ring bearers wear suits (usually dark shades; during the summer season, lighter shades are an option).
SEMI FORMAL EVENING
Here, the groom will be wearing a dark tuxedo and a white wingtip or laydown collar shirt. He will be wearing a vest and tie of his choice. The groomsmen, fathers, and ring bearer will have similar outfits with the exception of the vest and tie. Their vests and ties will usually be matching the color of the bridesmaids. Often times, the groom and ringbearer wear the exact same ensemble.
FORMAL DAYTIME
The groom has the option of going in a tuxedo, tailcoat, or stroller. The groomsmen and ring bearer should have a similar ensemble. The fathers can sport formal wear of their choice.
FORMAL EVENING
Similar to the style of Semiformal Evening, except the vests and tie are usually black (opposed to any selected color). To have the groom standout, perhaps he can go with a vest and the groomsmen, fathers, and ringbearer could wear cummerbunds. Often times, the groom and ringbearer wear the exact same ensemble.
ULTRA FORMAL DAYTIME
Traditionally, the groom will wear a cutaway coat, striped grey trousers, black or grey vest, ascot or striped for-in-hand tie, and patent leather shoes. Top cat, gloves, cane, and spats could be used as a finishing touch. Groomsmen, fathers, and ring bearer should have similar ensembles with possible differences in the shirt and/or tie.
ULTRA FORMAL EVENING
The groom, groomsmen, fathers, and ringbearers should all display black tailcoats, white pique shirts, white pique
vest, white pique bowtie, and black patent leather shoes. |
